Cultural Equity Grants (CEG)

These grants are offered in the spirit that all people who make up the city ought to have fair access to information, financial resources and opportunities for full cultural expression, as well as opportunities to be represented in the development of arts policy and the distribution of arts resources; that all the cultures and subcultures of the city are represented in thriving, visible arts organizations of all sizes; that new large-budget arts institutions, whose programming reflects the experiences of historically underserved communities, flourish.

Native American Artists' Survey

Deadline: May 31, 2008
This survey is being conducted as part of a larger feasibility study for an American Indian Community & Cultural Center (AIC&CC) by the San Francisco Mayor's Office Working Group on American Indian Concerns. AIC&CC, if developed, would be located in San Francisco and serve American Indians living in Northern California and possibly Western Nevada. The survey is also designed to help develop an Alliance for Native Arts (ANA), a newly forming advocacy nonprofit organization for Bay Area Native artists and cultural organizations. Funding for this survey is provided by the San Francisco Office of the Mayor, San Francisco Arts Commission and the San Francisco Foundation.

To take the survey on-line and/or download a copy click here.

Please contact Janeen Antoine, janeenantoine@mac.com, or Fran Hereth, fhereth@yahoo.com, 323-627-8291, if you have any questons.

Arts & Communities

UPDATE ON ARTS & COMMUNITIES: INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS (as of 22 April 2008)

Exploration Grants - May 2008 Deadline is Postponed.
Pending FY08-09 Budget in June/July 2008.

Realizations Grants - End of September 2008 Deadline Scheduled.
Will accept applications from Exploration grantees and new applicants.

Last year, the Arts Commission launched the new exciting three-year initiative, Arts & Communities: Innovative Partnerships, with monies from the City's General Fund and with additional funds from the Board of Supervisors.

However, as you know, for FY 08-09, the City and County of San Francisco is facing a projected $330+ budget deficit, and this deficit will impact all departments.

In the face of potential budget cuts, the Arts Commission will prioritize the ACIP Realization Grants in order to support projects that have been planned for and conceived with the previous round of Exploration Grants, and will consider new proposed projects for Realization Grants with the same goals and high level of preparedness that are ready to be implemented. Pending the FY08-09 budget in June/July 2008, further information about a next round of ACIP Explorations Grants will be announced.

While funds from the Cultural Equity Endowment is protected by legislation, the General Funds funds and its subsequent programs are more vulnerable. (Cultural Equity Endowment programs include Cultural Equity Initiatives, Organization Project Grants, Individual Artist Commissions and Creative Spaces).

Please rest assured that the Arts Commission maintains its commitment to infusing neighborhoods and communities with in-depth artistic engagement through grant programs like the Arts & Communities: Innovative Partnerships Grants Programs.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Cultural Equity Grants Program Director San San Wong at SanSan.Wong@sfgov.org.
