Exhibition Case Studies for a Small Space & Big Ideas [1]
Featuring Meg Shiffler (SFAC Galleries Director), Aimee Le Duc (Foundation Manger, St. Joseph’s Art Society and former SFAC Galleries Manager) and Dana Hemenway (artist, educator, and former SFAC Galleries Manager)
From 2003–2013, the SFAC Galleries produced some extraordinarily big exhibitions, in concept and content, in its small temporary space in the Veterans Building. For this Time Warp event, Shiffler, Le Duc, and Hemenway look at exhibition case studies to talk about professionalizing their practices, attempting to expand the gallery during a national recession, supporting local artists and working with global artists, running a municipal gallery program during Mayor Gavin Newsom’s tenure, preparing to move to a permanent main gallery, and more. With a program as ambitious as the SFAC Galleries, the speakers will also talk about finding the elusive work/life balance.
Join these intrepid SFAC staffers for a lively conversation amidst ephemeral and promotional collateral pulled from the archive. What were you doing during that time? Did you work with us? Let’s chat!
