Informational Workshop - Artists and Communities in Partnership

Join this workshop for helpful background and tips for applicants interested in the following San Francisco Arts Commission grant categories:

  • Artists and Communities in Partnership - Social Justice
  • Artists and Communities in Partnership for Youth

This special workshop includes a panel of artists and staff from organizations that have successfully applied for past Artists and Communities in Partnership grants. Hear Maria Hu Wu of ASPIRE, Kebo Drew of Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP), and Alicia Maldonado of San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) discuss their projects and how they moved the dial on urgent social issues.

  • ASPIRE partnered with artist Julio Salgado to produce bi-weekly art workshops for 25 undocumented Asian and Pacific Islander (API) youth. The program culminated in two pop-up galleries and an artist panel that shifted mainstream consciousness on issues that affect undocumented API communities. Their work together transformed ASPIRE members’ stigma and fear over their immigration status into self-determination and agency for long-term change.
  • Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project partnered with San Francisco Women Against Rape to implement the Life Healing Project, which provided a free filmmaking workshop and three popular education learning circles addressing contributing factors to the spectrum of violence against LGBTQ women of color.

All prospective applicants are highly encouraged to attend the informational workshop for the category in which you would like to apply. It will be an opportunity for you to learn about guideline and application changes, eligibility requirements, and general tips for applying.
