Join us for the closing reception of When Unearthed Sights Collide with a performance by artist Leyya Mona Tawil and music and guided imagery with violinist and music therapist Dr. Sangeeta Swamy of CIIS. Tawil and Dr. Swamy’s performances will be in response to the artwork exhibited in the gallery by artists Shirin Khalatbari and Sun Park.

About the Aritsts
Leyya Mona Tawil is an artist, curator, and cultural activist. She works in sound, dance, and hybrid performance. Tawil is a Syrian, Palestinian, American engaged in the world as such. Her works have been commissioned and produced internationally. She is the director of Arab.AMP - a platform for experimental music, live art, and ideas from the SWANA diaspora and our allied communities. Tawil is on the curatorial team of the Arab American National Museum (Dearborn), Southern Exposure (SF), and is the director of TAC Temescal Art Center (Oakland). @leyyamona
Sangeeta Swamy, PhD (she/they) is Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Integral Counseling Program at CIIS. An award-winning violinist, licensed psychotherapist, and Board-Certified Music Therapist, she has worked with children, teens and adults for over twenty-five years, published internationally, and specializes in social justice, transformative education, mindfulness and spirituality. She is currently an advanced trainee in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music. Dr. Swamy has performed internationally across the United States, Canada, Europe and India, and as a young violinist was a soloist on BBC radio. She has also conducted research on culturally centered music therapy, and has training from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies.
