The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) is seeking Cultural Ambassadors to help promote the 2025 Arts Impact Endowment grant and Cultural Equity Grant opportunities.

Cultural Ambassadors will help increase awareness of and attendance at SFAC’s grant information sessions and encourage prospective grantees to submit applications to relevant SFAC grant categories in fall 2024. This is a paid opportunity to be part of SFAC's grant-making process.

Outreach will involve reaching out to and connecting with potential applicants and promoting SFAC's grant program via emails, phone calls, posting on social media platforms, and conducting in-person outreach at selected programs and events around San Francisco. Ambassadors will spend approximately 18 hours per month performing duties, or a total of 72 hours throughout the duration of the program.

Selected Cultural Ambassadors will be asked to participate in a weekday virtual orientation session during work hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST in late August or early September 2024. Exact date to be confirmed.

These are the three types of outreach roles that Cultural Ambassadors will focus on. If selected, you will be assigned to one of these three roles:
  • Bridge Builder: a role that will promote in-person outreach via community programs and events as well as some online/virtual outreach via social media.
  • Influencer: a role that will primarily provide online/virtual outreach via social media.
  • Hybrid: a role that will promote via a combination of in-person and online/virtual outreach.

The 2025 Cultural Ambassadors will receive a compensation of $2,520 (approximately $35 per hour) to help conduct outreach between September – December 2024 for selected SFAC grant categories.

Restrictions:

Selected Cultural Ambassadors:

  • CAN NOT promote a FY25 grant category that they are going to apply to as an individual artist or apply to on behalf of an arts organization that will be released in fall 2024.
  • CAN NOT be a current or former City & County of San Francisco (CCSF) employee. This includes San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and City College employees.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.  

WE'RE LOOKING FOR CULTURAL AMBASSADORS WHO:

  • Are Outgoing and Positive
  • Must be at least 18 years old.  
  • Are available on some weekday afternoons (Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST) from August - December 2024 for periodic coaching sessions and meetings with SFAC staff.
  • Are deeply rooted in San Francisco’s diverse artistic communities.
  • Are passionate about San Francisco arts and culture and can encourage and motivate their community to apply for arts funding.
  • Enjoys connecting networks and are deeply rooted in one or more of of historically underserved communities, including those communities highlighted in the Cultural Equity ordinance (see Administrative Code Section 68.5).

CULTURAL AMBASSADORS WILL:

  • Receive outreach coaching support from SFAC staff.
  • Engage the Community as a Bridge Builder (in-person/hybrid), Influencer (virtually) or Hybrid (In-person and virtual) by promoting grants information through our SFAC website, newsletter, social Media platforms, and community arts events.
  • Serve as a liaison between the SFAC and their intended communities (September – December 2024).
  • Recruit applicants to explore SFAC’s grants landing page, attends technical assistance webinars, and connect with a program officer.
  • Spread the word and increase awareness among San Francisco artists and arts organizations of SFAC grant opportunities.
  • Provide feedback about their Cultural Ambassador program experience and make recommendations for improvements (December 2024).
  • Receive a compensation of $2,520 at the end of their service.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? 

  • SFAC staff will evaluate Cultural Ambassador applications and will contact applicants who are a good fit for the program.
  • Applicants who are determined to be a good fit for the program will be asked to participate in at least one interview (no more than two interviews) with Jennifer Chu and Jonell Molina on MS Teams.
  • From there, SFAC staff will select and notify the selected Cultural Ambassadors.
  • Selected Cultural Ambassadors must be available for an online orientation that will be scheduled on a weekday in early September 2024.

Please note that the Bridge Builder outreach role will require conducting in-person outreach at selected programs and events in and around San Francisco.

The Hybrid outreach role (combination of in-person and online/virtual outreach) will also require conducting in-person outreach at selected programs and events in and around San Francisco.
