New Arts Impact Endowment
Open Houses + Community Town Hall
With the passage of Proposition E, the Restoration of Hotel Tax for Arts and Cultural Purposes, the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) and Grants for the Arts (GFTA) will receive funding for a new Arts Impact Endowment to support a variety of arts initiatives throughout the City! We want YOU to help shape how these new dollars can best support the arts and culture sector in San Francisco. See below for translations in Chinese, Spanish and Tagalog.
We are particularly encouraging qualitative input and recommendations on behalf of your networks and alliances. Please submit any ideas via e-mail to: ARTS-Impact@sfgov.org by January 25. We will weight submissions with multiple signatories accordingly. Please make sure that all signatories have signed off on the recommendations and are copied on the e-mail submission.
Note: The Arts Impact Endowment will start at $2.5 million annually. We can pool funds over multiple years allowing for multi-year grantmaking support. While we invite any and all ideas; it would be helpful to hear what needs the proposals will address and what specific resource allocation you are recommending (i.e. “$250K for a new grant category that would support national touring opportunities for individual artists and arts organizations” or “$750K for a grant program to support acquisition of permanently affordable rehearsal and studio space”, etc.).

About Proposition E
Last November, the voters passed Proposition E by a 75% majority thereby earmarking 1.5% of the City’s 14% Hotel Tax for arts and cultural programming. The legislation increases extant city support for GFTA, the Cultural Equity Endowment, and Cultural Centers. It also includes funding for new priorities, such as a fund to support cultural districts (administered by the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development) and a newly established Arts Impact Endowment to address emerging needs in the arts and culture sector. The SFAC and GFTA have launched a public engagement process to help create a Cultural Services Allocation Plan to help guide how the new Arts Impact Endowment funds will be spent over the next five years.
